Underpainting Studies

Following my studies from my online sessions about the human face anatomy, this is my first attempt at an oil painting. I decided to do a study in two-tone and working the values. It was challenging at first because the paint covers up my initial drawing on the canvas.

I wasn’t sure where to go after doing the drawing in pencil, being aware not to get too carried away in the drawing because the paint is going to just cover it all up. A part of me would like to be excellent in each stage, yet would like to spend more time and energy on pushing the paint.

By releasing my “self-imposed pressure” (lol), it was a relief to finally apply the paint, let it dry a couple days, then come back at it with additional layers.
